Insight Publications is an award winning leading Australian Publisher and specialize in educational resources for students and teachers in English and Literature. With over 40 years of experience in creating specialized content, their repository of content includes wide range of study guides, Shakespeare resources and skills-based workbooks and textbooks. They wished to increase their eBook usage especially as Digital Titles of their existing books with a catch – they wanted to distribute eBooks offline too.
Insight Publications’ plans to go digital with their existing titles brought with it the major consideration of two important aspects. First of all, the content has to be interactive with lots of assessment data that is created by their team. It included fill-in the blanks, multiple choice questions, pop-up answers, etc. Secondly, they wanted to utilize their existing offline distribution channels such as local book retailers, who already sell their printed versions of books, to also sell their digital offerings.
Digital eBook Platform: KITABOO
In order to create digitally enhanced eBooks, Hurix suggested that Insight utilize their Digital Publishing Platform – KITABOO. KITABOO not only provided for the creation of digital eBooks, it also made possible for the publisher to add audios, videos, and assessments to the eBooks.
In order for Insight to create new assessments, Hurix suggested that they should be created using KITABOO widgets. KITABOO Widgets made the quick creation of assessments simple due to the multiple templates available in it, and also allowed the quick preview of the output. Since widgets are a part of the KITABOO digital publishing suite, they could easily be integrated into their interactive eBooks in a few clicks.
Offline Distribution of eBooks
Since the client wanted to further leverage their existing robust distribution channels and to provide students and teachers with the options of being able to select the print edition, digital edition, or both in order to read its eBooks, Hurix suggested the use of Access Codes to distribute their eBooks.
These access codes were basically the codes needed by end-user to enter the Insight Digital Reader Apps for windows and iOS to read the book they purchased. Once an eBook is published, the client could then define the number of retail licenses it wanted to generate. These many access codes were then generated and subsequently printed on scratch cards and distributed to local book stores. The cards had links to both the iPad App and the Windows reader app. End users can purchase these access codes, download the app, and enter the access codes required to access the books
Hurix partnered together with Insight Publications to assist with their successful eBook conversion and enrichment. The Hurix services team based out of Chennai converted the titles provided by Insight to digital eBooks, and they further enhanced them with multiple assessments and multimedia activities per Insight’s requested specifications. The team also generated the Access Codes and provided them to Insight, who then published them on purchasable Scratch Cards.
Insight was able to launch their digital offering ‘Insight Digital’ on time, within their stipulated time frame. Their digital offering was very well received by the market. End users now had the option of choosing a digital copy or a traditional printed copy of the same book. They could also do self-assessments “on the go” using ‘Insight Digital’ and know how they are faring. ‘Insight Digital’ allowed Insight Publications to significantly increase sales and reach a far larger audience in the marketplace.
……Really great for Insight – we sold more than we’ve ever sold in the 13 years we’ve been attending! The app looked fantastic and a lot of really positive comments on the look and feel……
