KITABOO Masterclass
Your eBooks look great. So why are users still dropping off?
A Frankfurter Buchmesse Masterclass, hosted online by the fair on 25 June 2025.
Publishers are making beautiful eBooks, and readers are still leaving. In this Frankfurter Buchmesse Masterclass, Sujatha Ramesh breaks user experience down into questions a team can design for, with examples from KITABOO’s own product work. Jagadish Chowdibegur (JC) then shows how that thinking plays out in the platform.

The conversation
Above all, you’re not going to show off your engineering. That’s not why UX exists.
Sujatha starts with a Formula 1 pit stop: the driver, the engineering and the mission working as one. Experience, she argues, is not just great engineering or great visuals. It is how it feels to be there, which is subjective, but it can be broken into objective questions: how smooth each transition is, how easily readers find things, whether the system makes them repeat work or protects them from losing it.
Her examples come from KITABOO’s own product work: button tolerances changed for journal editors in their seventies and eighties, audio feedback limited for a two-year-old who kept pressing, controls moved so children’s swipes stop hitting the toolbar. JC then demonstrates the platform, and the speakers answer attendees’ questions on EPUB formats, grading, cognitive load, AI and how to make the case for UX to leadership.
