How to Create an eBook Store Website

Vishal Dani, Mike Harman, Balasubbhramaniyam Ayyaswaami

Selling through Amazon, Google and Apple reaches readers, but the marketplace sets the price and the publisher never learns who bought. Vishal Dani and Mike Harman explain how publishers build their own branded eBook store alongside those channels, from planning and wireframes to the KITABOO back end that fulfils and protects each sale, with real store examples and a long attendee Q&A.

The conversation

You know who your customer is, what they bought, and you get the money right away.

Vishal starts with the problem: in a marketplace the publisher is confined to the features and prices the marketplace offers, and doesn’t know who is buying. Readers now expect to pay and read straight away, and since the pandemic publishers have stopped asking whether to go digital and started asking how soon. Mike sets out the case for adding a branded store to the existing channels rather than replacing them.

Vishal then takes the build step by step: planning, templates on platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce, a full wireframe, a content track for metadata and pricing, an integration track for payments and access, and a soft launch. Mike shows stores KITABOO has worked on, and the last 20 minutes are attendee questions on DRM, SDKs, offline reading and shared logins.
