Depending on the teaching requirements at schools, colleges and universities, it is not always necessary that single book fulfills all the course requirements. Most of the times it is separate chapters required from multiple books that fulfill the course needs. KITABOO® helps out three leading publishers to fulfill their customer requirements by enabling ‘Chapter Buy’ in three separate contexts.
Requirement:
The customers: India’s first eBook retailer, a Norwegian leading publisher and a leading publisher group part of Hachette Livre, had different business needs.
The India based eBook retailer wanted to enable their customers to be able to select and buy single of multiple chapters if the whole book did not serve their purpose. The Norwegian publisher wanted to be able to assign specific chapters to students for their student learning division and the publisher group part of Hachette Livre wanted to enable teachers to share specific amount of learning material published through KITABOO® with the students.
All the three customers had similar requirements with totally different context to their needs.
Solution:
The publisher group which was a part of Hachette Livre, comprised a total of 14 publishers with customized KITABOO® Readers for each publisher, and also offline distribution for schools. Since their way of enabling eBooks in schools consisted of student-teacher methodology, Hurix implemented the concept of Chapter Based learning by creating each chapter as a separate Sharable Content Object (SCO) and allowed teachers to map it to specific students.
For the Norwegian publisher, each chapter was again mapped as a separate SCO. The publisher had its own e-commerce store, and the ebooks were to be displayed using Cloud based KITABOO® Reader. Using the KITABOO® Solution, Publisher was able to assign specific chapters to users, and separate URLs were generated for each assignment. View it in action at www.smartbok.no
Since Hurix already had experience of implementing Chapter based learning objectives with publishers earlier, it was not difficult for it to implement the same for its retail bookstore: KITABOO® Store. So when India based eBook retailer wished for implementation of ‘Chapter Buy’ for its store, they were able to get a quick response from Hurix, which enabled them to create separate content objects for each chapter.
Benefits:
All the three customers were able to use the concept of ‘Chapter based’ content assignment in three different ways, to suit their business requirements. The publisher group part of Hachette Livre was able to provide teachers with a way to deliver specific content to students, in a way that suited their teaching guidelines. The Norwegian publisher was able to combine different chapters to create specific learning content and the Indian eBook retailer was able to easily sell eBook chapters to students. This enabled them to fulfill a huge demand from their end users and allowed them to cater to the huge Indian higher education and universities market.
