Gyldendal is one of the largest publishers in Norway, established in 1925. To be able to catapult themselves into the upcoming eBooks market, they wanted a platform that could convert their legacy content to interactive and illustrated eBooks easily, without any implications or changes required to their existing ecosystem including their web store through which they intended to sell eBooks also.

Challenge:

Given their long history, Gyldendal had a lot of legacy literature, general literature, textbook and teaching material which they wanted to convert to digital eBooks format. Not only the volumes were large, the turnaround time was also expected to be less.
Since Gyldendal already had a web store in place, can the new platform deliver the new digital content through it with minimal changes being done to the existing ecosystem?

Solution:

Hurix analyzed Gyldendal’s existing ecosystem and proposed to them, usage of KITABOO® Publisher to convert legacy content to eBooks. The eBook production would be carried out by the Client’s editorial team through a cloud deployment of KITABOO® Publisher.
The platform integrated with Gyldendal’s Tibet Server for eCommerce with ease, and the new digital content could be easily published onto the server. It also supported the differential pricing capability used by Gyldendal to enable the publishers to sell eBooks based on feature set and nature of the content.
To view the content, the Gyldendal chose KITABOO®’s cloud based online reader, which did not require a need to download any app to read the purchased books. The reader was customized and branded as per the Gyldendal’s requirements.

Benefits:

Gyldendal was able to receive out of the box support for conversion of Norwegian language by the use of KITABOO® Publisher and KITABOO® Cloud-based reader. Also due to the unique audio sync capability of KITABOO® Publisher, rich interactive eBooks had a quick turnaround time.
The major benefit came from the fact that Gyldendal didn’t have to change their existing systems to accommodate KITABOO®, showcasing how easily KITABOO® integrates with the existing ecosystems.
